The Story of MDCC

Markinch District Community Choir (MDCC) was founded in 2011 as an inclusive space for singers of all backgrounds, welcoming everyone aged 13 and above with no auditions required. Led by Musical Director Peter since 2022, the choir blends vocal training with camaraderie and fun. Known for its diverse repertoire—from classical to contemporary—MDCC is a vibrant part of the local music scene, performing at concerts and community events while welcoming new members who love to sing.

Peter Thomson

Singer, musician, and conductor with a wealth of experience.

"My musical journey began as a singer, performing as a soloist in Oratorios and taking on lead roles in a variety of operas. I have also sung in concerts featuring Operetta, West End classics, and traditional Scots and English songs.

Beyond performing, I have had the privilege of teaching singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and coaching young voices in The National Boys’ Choir of Scotland. In 2015, I was appointed Director of Music at St George’s School for Girls, where I conducted and led ensembles and choirs across Europe, Canada, and America. After retiring from this role in 2022, I became the Musical Director of the incredible Markinch Community Choir.

MDCC is the most welcoming and supportive ensemble I have had the pleasure of working with. Wednesday nights are a perfect blend of dedication, great singing, and fun—a true testament to the joy of making music together."
